Press Release Summary: Water Quality Index
Press Release Body: The availability of water in terms of both quality and quantity is essential to very existence of mankind. In the field of water Resources Management, information on water quality is an essential input. Water quality index (WQI) provides a single unit less value ranging from 1 to 100. It express overall water quality at a certain location and time based on several water quality parameters like pH, dissolved oxygen, fecal coli form bacteria, total suspended solid etc. Here we are going to compare the water quality of damodar, after confluence of Tamla Nullah, near Majher mana village at various seasons (from July 2005 to December 2007). It has been seen that WQI of the month August 2005, April 2006 and February 2007 is high which imply that the water quality is excellent. Whereas WQI of the month of December 2005, August 2006 and April 2007 is quite low which indicates bad water quality. This study shows the need to improve the water quantity and quality especially because inhabitants use the water as their only source of drinking water. Hence the objective of an index is to turn complex water quality data into information that is understandable and useable by the public.
